Lil Wayne - Sorry 4 the Wait Review (With Song-by-Song Breakdown)

Now that I have welcomed readers to what this blog will be about it is time to extract its first review. Sorry 4 the Wait (by Lil Wayne) reshaped my view on the mixtape universe. Many people have hated on Weezy since he got out of jail. Tha Carter IV was promised after his release, but the albums Rebirth and I am Not a Human Being ended up preceding it. These albums were not his best pieces of work, but still posted decent figures.

Tha Carter III had unbelievable critical acclaim and exponential sales figures. It seemed half the world was expecting the same success for Tha Carter IV (myself included), and the other half were thinking it would be a joke like many people viewed Rebirth and I am Not a Human Being.

With the release date finally approaching Weezy pushed it back once more, and knew just the singles (6 foot 7 foot, John, and How to Love) would not hold fans over until the release. Weezy threw together Sorry 4 the Wait for his fans in what appeared to be overnight.

Tunechi Back is a track on Rick Ross' "Tupac Back" beat. This song shows Tunechi really is back to the "Carter" form he was in for the first three. The song has no chorus, so it is just Weezy going off for about two-and-a-half minutes. Tune' flows "I'll aim this mutha f*cka at your memories, and all my n*ggas bloods but we make them n*ggas bleed." He also finishes with "wish I could take a shot of Ciroc wit Pac. Sorry for the wait till my album drop." Tunechi Back is an instant mixtape classic, and is only one of two songs on "Sorry 4 the Wait" which is not freestyle.

Rollin is a freestyle where Weezy starts to take a shot back at Jay - Z. Jay-Z went at Wayne saying Young Money is Baby Money on his Watch the Throne Collaboration with Kanye West. The song starts "G5 sittin' on the runway. Big a** chopper, call that b*tch Beyonce." This is Wayne's first shot back at Jay, but it would not be his last. He has almost an entire verse on the song "It's Good" on Tha Carter IV where he just murders Jay. (I would absolutely love to see Jay in another beef; especially a lyrical giant like Weezy!)

Throwed Off featured Gudda Gudda, and he throws 16 bars worth hearing. Weezy also spits "kidnap the baby, and I f*ck the baby sitter." He also says "three words ya' never hear, let him live." Lyrics are so amazing it almost does not even seem like freestyle. Then I remember who is spitting it.

Gucci Gucci is a catchy beat, which everyone and anyone gets down with. Wayne goes from having "homies wit' that white girl, call it Lady Gaga;" to "skateboardin' in my Van's." There is a chorus for this song, but the raw lyrics stick in my head more than the hook.

Marvin's Room freestyle is one of the high points of the entire mixtape. Wayne "OJ Simpson that p*ssy," and "we gonna' f*ck around like we f*ckin' in a circle." Drake has influenced Lil Wayne as much as Weezy has influenced Drake. Keen listeners can hear in slow songs like "How to Love" and this "Marvin's Room" freestyle how Weezy can spit lyrics like they come straight from Drizzy. They have worked together so much, and they work so well together. I would love to see a full collaboration album with Weezy and Drizzy!

With the Sure Thing freestyle, you can take your pick of ill lyrics! "Kush in the swisha. Money over b*tches. Never kill a woman. Unless she is a witness," is how the freestyle starts. Weezy just keeps going from there. "It's Young Money m*tha f*cker game over. Shots leave ya body looking like ya doing yoga." Wayne just spits dope verses like my 4-year-old eats Reese's.

Groove Street Party features hot new artist Lil B. "I’m higher than a b*tch, feel like a climbed an f*cking mountain. Illist n*gga you know, my accountants still counting. Shot hit him a minute ago but his body’s still bouncing." When Weezy spits freestyles on free mixtapes this sick, he is not joking that his accountants still countin'.

In Racks (freestyle) Wayne admits he "Wake[s] up early in the morning. Eat that p-ssy like cold pizza." This statement just got almost every woman who heard it as wet as a hurricane, in addition, to do it in the morning? Weezy even motivates me to want to munch on a fish taco in the morning!

Hands Up (My Last) remix - freestyle is not the hottest track on this beast of a mixtape, but Weezy still holds his own. He makes me wanna' "smoke a tree down til' it’s just a tree stump," and "break buds down the size of a football n*gga." In other words, There isn't a track I would press the skip button on in this mixtape.

Sorry 4 the Wait is the song this mixtape is named after. Weezy goes off on this one too. Wayne's gonna' "run this sh*t till [he] the last man runnin'," and I believe that.

"I pop some Percocets. Then I pop some Xanax," and listened to the Inkredible remix freestyle with Thugga, Raw Dizzy, and flow. Wayne keeps the dope flows and ill rhyme slingin' going for just a little more of your listening pleasure. I am not sure how the song turned out, but I give it two-thumbs-up because I was zonked!

In the finale Run the World (girls), Weezy proclaims "ma' money gettin olda' uh yeah, [and I] got dat' new money too tho' shawty, but nuttin' betta' then that old money." Ain't that the truth? We all wish we had either the old or the new money Weezy's got. Wayne doesn't just sit back and get rich though. Weezy is known throughout the music industry as one of the hardest working MC's in the game.

I imagine Weezy is to our generation what The Beetles, Elvis, or Frank Sinatra was to their generations. With so many options to take up your listening time, Wayne takes up the most of mine. Even when I don't have a Weezy song playing', whoever track it is normally features Wayne.

Wayne thanks for inspiring me to utilize my dope author skills to write about something I love, music!

Also I still need some more "unknown" artists out there. I have a couple of good ones so far, and it might be hard to beat out this dude from Detroit (whose will remain nameless ... for now) for this months January Feature Artist.  Remember email me at d3uc3swi1d@gmail.com with your music to see if you can become one of my feature artists.

Time to sign off again. I hope you enjoyed this song-by-song breakdown of Sorry 4 the Wait, and if you didn't... well, I guess I really don't care (haha). Either way most of my blogs will be much shorter, but this one just turned me into a more passionate mixtape lover.

Welcome to Review My Mixtape

I have always loved music, but only recently did I realize how amazing the Mixtape world is! Tha Carter IV was yet another victim of a delayed release date. In the wake of the delay Lil Wayne released the mixtape "Sorry 4 the Wait." Sorry 4 the Wait was one of the illist lyrical showings of 2011. Lil Wayne did is own version "Tunechi Back" on Rick Ross' "2 Pac Back" beat. Weezy did his own dope versions of "Gucci Gucci" and "My Last." Many people believe Tha Carter IV will receive less spins on their iPods than Sorry 4 the Wait. Sorry for the wait definately opened my eyes to the explosiveness of the world of mixtapes.

This is not a review for "Sorry 4 the Wait," (although that blog will be coming soon). This blog is just to let everyone know there is a new standard for reviewing mixtapes. Said standard is right here on my blog "Review My Mixtape."

Rappers should be tuned in to see how their music fairs against other artists, and fans should be observant to learn about new artists and find out which mixtapes deserve their limited listening time. I will breakdown lyrics, beats, and replay ability.

Artists you can send your samples to d3uc3swi1d@gmail.com. Please let me know your name, what city you rep., twitter/facebook, song titles, and album/mixtape name if applicable. I look forward to hearing your music and the flow of your favorite artists which I have not heard of, yet.

Novembers mixtapes will be first on the docket. The Summers Top 10, Novembers Top 10, and The Top 10 of 11' will also be making there way on my blog in the near future. I will also feature a new artist every month starting with January (which will be released sometime in December). I am currently looking for some finalists, so if you know (or are) an artist who deserves to be the January Feature Artist on the Review My Mixtape blog; send me an email (d3uc3swi1d@gmail.com). I am always looking for new artists, so I will open as many emails and comments as I can.

There is so much to say, and I will not be able to say it all in this blog. I look forward to sharing music with both fans and artists. I am new to blogging, but not new to writing or reviewing. I am looking for advice from you (the readers) on what you want to read, and what you want me to review.

For now, I am signing off. Look forward to "The Marathon Continues" by Nipsey Hussle, "1.21 Gigawatts: Back to the First Time" by Ludacris, "T.R.U. Realigion" by 2 Chainz, "City of God: Gangsta Grillz" by Fred the Godson, "The Lord of the Rings" by OJ Da Juiceman, and "Billionaire Minds" by Birdman & Mack Maine just to name a few.
